@1DGBeats Interview - @Abude.521
Not everything worth hearing is easy to find. This interview looks at DG Beats, a producer carving their own lane, building through consistency.
If you were deserted on a island with a laptop and had to make beats all day with 3 VSTS only, what would those VSTs be?
Definitely Omnisphere, Purity, and Vanguard. Basic choices, but if you use those VSTs right they can sound very unique. Especially Omnisphere, I could really just use that.
With such an extensive catalogue on SoundCloud, how do you look back on your older work and your evolution since then?
It's interesting to look back on my older work because it really shows my evolution as a producer. You can hear that my earlier beats were really inspired by Zaytoven and MexikoDro in terms of the sound selection, but if you listen to something I produced this year for example, you can still hear some influence from other producers, but with a far more unique sound selection and overall approach to production. I'm really trying to create my own style while retaining the inspirations that led me to create music in the first place.
Why do you keep making beats?
It's pretty simple. I keep making beats because I enjoy the act of production itself. I don't really make beats to try to get placements anymore, I just really enjoy the creative process of beat-making. If I want to achieve a certain sound or evoke a certain emotion in one of my beats, I really enjoy pursuing that.
What does “good production” mean to you? When you listen to other people’s music, what do you listen for first?
There are two things I listen for that determine if something is "good production". First, the beat has to have some sort of strong emotion to it, whether that be scary, angry, chill, or happy, all good production in my opinion has to cause the listener to feel something. Second, I think good production is almost always unique. This doesn't mean that it can't have any inspiration, but just trying to copy another producer doesn't leave as strong an impression with me as trying to create something that is truly your own.
What era of music do you feel inspires you the most? and what makes it THE era for you?
Definitely 2005-2015. That decade gave birth to so many new styles of production and music that continue to this day. Even looking at what styles of production are popular today, we can see many people still trying to emulate sounds that originated in that era (D. Rich, Zaytoven, Mexikodro, Dolan Beats, DP Beats, Southside & many more). I think that period is when we saw some of the most authentic, unique, and original music and production come out. I draw most of my inspiration from beats in this time period because of that.
What’s next for your music? Is there anything you can share about where you’re heading?
I have new samples on the way with DylanSoko (@1DylanSoko) that should be dropping soon as a follow-up to our last samples so everyone should be on the lookout for those. I also should have a new set of solo samples coming out early this year.
